A lot of juicy information was revealed during the first "Outlander" panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. For starters, Diana Gabaldon, the writer of the best-selling books on which the Starz series is based, will pen an episode in season 2 of the show.

Fans of the series will remember her cameo appearance in the first season, and the novelist doesn't see herself doing such again as her hands-on participation in the series now happens off-screen.

"Outlander" season 2 brings Jaime (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to France. In an interview with Zap2it, Heughan said that his character would need Claire's support "to survive and to deal with this new world that they're not quite accustomed to." The same goes for Claire.

In their journey to the most stylish city in the world in the olden times, Claire's pregnancy, which she is "so excited" about, will instigate some problems and will have the mother-to-be facing the things she never thought of dealing with.

"It does bring up a lot of her insecurities and a lot of her fears," Balfe revealed. "She lost her parents when she was 5. She doesn't have this kind of role model of a mother to sort of know what's going to happen or know how she's going to be. I think there's a lot of fear for her in that."

Gabaldon revealed that the couple's struggle to becoming parents and the fact that they have no idea how to be such will be the heart and soul of season 2.

"They're facing the idea of being new parents for the first time," the author explained. "Neither one has any experience with it. They've got their doubts, but at the same time they're committed to each other and they kind of rely on the strength of their relationship."

At the San Diego Comic-Con panel, the lead stars and Gabaldon were joined by series creator Ronald D. Moore, who was a bit dodgy when it comes to how faithful season 2 will be to its source material, Gabaldon's "Dragonfly in Amber."

"It's nice to preserve a little bit of the mystery for even people who have read the book," Moore simply told TV Line.

According to Deadline, Moore will not present the book as it was written by Gabaldon but there will not be drastic changes to expect.

He also revealed that season 2 is placed between 18th century France and post-World War I, and will return in Scotland halfway through. A gag reel for the series' first season was shown in the conference.

"Outlander" season 2 will be aired next year.
