'Outlander' season 2 spoilers, update: Caitriona Balfe calls set designs 'fantastic'
Aside from the exciting plot that will bring Claire Beauchamp and Jamie Frazer to Paris, actress Caitriona Balfe said that viewers should also look forward to seeing the amazing set designs for "Outlander" season 2.
Balfe, who portrays the role of the World War II nurse who was suddenly transported to the 1700s, told Access Hollywood that the current production of the series in Scotland is doing well, and she expressed her admiration for the amazing sets where they are shooting this year.
"It's a very visually – a very different show this year. I mean, obviously Claire and Jamie are sort of center and all that still. But yeah, it's really beautiful," Balfe said.
Aside from the sets and costumes, the Irish actress-model is also excited about her character's development in season 2.
"The sets are fantastic -- so rich and so lush and the costumes are incredible," she said, "but you know what I've been really enjoying is that Claire's pregnant and playing all of that – what that brings up in her and about impending motherhood and everything. It's just been a really, really fun, great material to work with."
Balfe also mentioned the return of Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) this season. Claire's modern-day era husband was featured in flashback sequences in season 1, and the couple will have several scenes again upon the show's return.
The actress said that series creator Ron D. Moore managed to beautifully incorporate Claire and Frank's relationship in the script even if the plot is mostly set in the past. She said that both she and Menzies believe that they have really amazing material, which was incredible to perform.
The 35-year-old star also said that Claire will do everything to keep Jamie (Sam Heughan) from dwelling on the painful events that happened between him and the ruthless Black Jack Randall (Menzies) in season 1. According to Balfe, Claire will use the Parisian mission to keep his mind off things and have another reason to move forward from the past.
"Outlander" season 2 will return on Starz in 2016.
