"Outlander" season 2 takes the time-traveling couple to France. The stars of the series, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, admitted in a recent interview with Blastr that the change of location brought in many challenges for them.

"We felt a little bit of discomfort in the transition, because we were so used to playing in this gritty Scottish mud," Balfe revealed. Comparing the old setting with the new one, she said, "Everything was very muted with the wools. Now all of a sudden we're in these luxurious apartments and grand houses."

Showrunner Ron Moore said that the new location made it feel like it's a "new series," with everything from the props to the costume used in the first season left behind. But the biggest change lies in the varying complications Jaime and Claire will experience in France.

"Claire is dealing with her pregnancy and [wondering], how do you support someone going through a trauma like [Jamie's]? How do you help him get over it, or get past it?" Balfe explained, adding that her character sacrificed herself in a way to help Jamie cope.

"The idea they have of changing the future, she uses it like a mission and something for Jamie to put his focus and energy into so he's not dwelling on what's happened," the actress added.

Although the couple will have a tough time in France, Balfe is looking forward to seeing how the two will support each other. Heughan said that his character has "thrown himself wholeheartedly" to the mission although he certainly is "not relishing" all of it.

Jaime seems to be on a roll when it comes to changing the course of history although at the end of the day, his own troubles haunt and hold him back. Jaime and Claire stay "bonded mostly by their child." Heughan said the idea of them being a family "carries them through."

There's no release date settled for the show's return but "Outlander" season 2, according to Carter Matt, could air in March.
