The cast and crew of "Outlander" have gone on a holiday break. Executive producer Maril Davis took to Twitter on Dec. 18 and wrote, "Happy Holidays to the #Outlander cast and crew. Enjoy your time off — you deserve it!"

The series has been filming its second season since April. Loyal viewers are eagerly awaiting new episodes, but star Sam Heughan reassured fans that the wait is almost over and that the series will return to Starz soon.

"Season 2 is almost complete, #Droughtlander is almost over! Thanks again to out extended Clan of Outlander Fans, we make it for them," the actor said when he received "Outlander's" award at the Radio Times for TV Show Champion 2015.

Heughan told Radio Times that this was "a huge Christmas present from the Outlander fans." The actor added that he was "delighted the show has won this award and is getting recognition in the UK."

The 35-year-old dedicated the award to those involved in making the show.

"The award is due to all the cast and crew who work so hard in every weather condition," he said.

Meanwhile, to make the waiting period easier for fans, the show has made it a point to give regular updates via its social media account. On Dec. 19, writer and co-executive producer Matthew B. Roberts tweeted that they will finish filming season 2 after the holidays. The people behind the show also posted a picture of Jamie (Heughan) embracing Claire (Caitriona Balfe) with the caption, "Can their bond hold strong in France? #OutlanderOfferings."

"Outlander" season 2 will be set in Scotland and France. Jamie and Claire will mingle with the Parisian elite while looking for Bonnie Prince Charlie (Andrew Gower), and attempt to stop the Jacobite rebellion and prevent the slaughter at Culloden Moor.

The new season will also introduce Jamie and Claire's daughter, Brianna, as well as her fiancé Roger, who will be played by Richard Rankin. The show is expected to make an official announcement regarding the actress who will be playing Brianna soon.

"Outlander" season 2 returns to Starz in 2016.
