"Outlander" season 3 will be based on the novel "Voyager," the third novel in the series written by author Diana Gabaldon. In an interview with Radio Times, executive producer Ronald D. Moore managed to tease what fans could expect to see when the show returns.

According to Moore, the season will initially be set in Scotland but it will not be sticking to that location for long. As the title of the source material suggests, the season will see the main characters Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jaime (Sam Heughan) travel across the Atlantic Sea in the 18th century and reach a multitude of areas.

Moore then confirmed that the series would delve into the Carribean and Jamaica before landing in the New World. While it was incredibly fresh to see one single season cover a lot of different areas, Moore also stated that this made it very difficult for the show's production since each place required a different set or real-world location to film in.

"It's exciting creatively, but really hard in terms of production," Moore explained. "Normally by the third and fourth season of a show it's basically a machine - this is the police station, this is an apartment, this is the bridge of the Enterprise - you're familiar with using those sets. But with this it's like you're doing a whole new series every year."

Jaime and Claire won't be taking the journey on their own. According to Movie News Guide, they will encounter a Chinese character named Yi Tien Cho who is described as an exiled scholar from Imperial China. He will be joining the couple as they journey across the Carribean. 

No official premire date has yet been announced for "Outlander" season 3, although Vine Report explains that it is expected to premiere earlier in the year compared to the delayed premire of season 2.
