Much to the chagrin of horror game fans, the horror fest "Outlast 2" will have its release pushed back to the first quarter of 2017.

According to a Facebook post by the official "Outlast" page, Red Barrels said that they did not want to have the game released unless it gets tested thoroughly. They said that they had to make the difficult decision, and after weighing their options, they came up with the decision. After all, this indie studio is known for its ability to deliver one of the most terrifying yet fulfilling horror experiences possible. As such, they need more time to make sure "Outlast 2" will consistently deliver this.

They even went so far as to say that they promise to "scare the crap out" of players with the new "Outlast" game.

Regardless, a lot of fans are still doubtful about "Outlast 2," since it is not a direct sequel to the original game. This is considered to be the spiritual successor of the game, putting the player as a cameraman who is looking for his lost wife after a helicopter crash in the Arizona Desert. However, unlike the first game, "Outlast 2" has much deeper religious overtones with its cult, as well as supernatural themes such as poltergeist activities and even tentacled horrors.

However, its similarity with the first game is in the gameplay. Players are still given a camera that features a nightvision mode in order to navigate in pitch black darkness and discover things that are probably best left unseen. The ambience and the eventual build-up of tension still remains to be one of the core experiences the game can offer.

According to Games Radar, even if the game never had a definite release date before, a lot of fans are still disappointed since its Steam information page had a fall 2016 date before the delay announcement was made.
