Well, looks like "Overwatch" fans won't be getting a graphic novel set in the world they love this month. Blizzard Entertainment has decided to pull the plug on "Overwatch: First Strike" because they are going to "take the story in a different direction."

"The original idea for the graphic novel dates back to the early days of the game's development and came from our desire to tell the story of the founding of Overwatch during the Omnic Crisis. In the years since First Strike's conception, we have done a lot of development on the universe and its stories. While the core of this story remains, we have changed and expanded upon how we see the events that took place during the first days of Overwatch," Blizzard's lead writer Michael Chu said in a statement posted on the Battle.net blog.

The graphic novel may have been canceled but Chu stated that they still have plans to tell the story in the future. He also revealed that they still have several stories in development that would explore the "Overwatch" world. At least fans have that to look forward to.

Digital copies of "Overwatch: First Strike" were supposed to come out this month, while the print version was scheduled to come out in April 2017. Blizzard writer Micky Neilson was to write the 100-page graphic novel and it was going to tell the story of how characters like Ana Amari, Torbjörn Lindholm, Jack Morrison, Gabriel Reyes, and Reinhardt Wilhelm formed the original "Overwatch" strike team. Ludo Lullabi was supposed to do the art for "Overwatch: First Strike" with Ryan Odagawa in charge of coloring it.

Chu thanked the creative team for all their hard work in the statement and he also thanked the fans for supporting the graphic novel and the game.

To make up for the bad news, "Overwatch" is free to play from Nov. 18 to 21.
