'Overwatch' DLC news: fans discover the first DLC character

Soldier and D.Va in action in "Overwatch." Will Sombra be their friend or foe? Blizzard Entertainment

The first "Overwatch" DLC appears to have been discovered by fans and it turns out, it's what developer Blizzard Entertainment wanted all along.

In an interview with Eurogamer, game director Jeff Kaplan was asked about the unannounced character named Sombra, who is believed to be released in an "Overwatch" DLC pack.

"No, it was not strange," Kaplan said when asked if it was strange that fans found out about the hero before they were supposed to. He proceeded to reveal that they were planting the clues all along.

"We have put a lot of hints, all over the game and out of the game, so I would say it's about time that people are concerned with who Sombra is," Kaplan explained.

"I hope they keep researching more and find more hints that are out there," he went on to say, hinting that there's more to learn about the mysterious "Overwatch" character.

"Overwatch" has only been out for three weeks, but gamers are already out for information about the post-launch content that will further expand the multiplayer first-person shooter.

Sombra's true identity is yet to be fully uncovered by fans. Based on what has been unearthed (all compiled on Reddit), she can both be a hero or a villain.

If the rumored "Overwatch" DLC character is the latter, she likely has something to do with Reaper. It is also believed she might be harboring something against Lumerico, but the most interesting theory is that she could be Alexandra's mother.

Whoever Sombra really is, fans won't have to wait that long to find out. Kaplan has revealed when Blizzard plans to talk about their "Overwatch" DLC plans.

"We have plans for some hero and map updates, which you'll be hearing more about as we get a little bit further into the summer," Kaplan said. He added that they are still trying to figure out "the right cadence" in releasing downloadable content.
