The producers of the mecha movie "Pacific Rim" recently unveiled a trailer for its second installment, "Pacific Rim: Uprising." The new trailer shows an army of "Jaegers" with a flurry of action-packed fight scenes.

The film will have John Boyega as the main actor, with a few members of the 2013 cast such as Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman returning to play their original roles. Steven DeKnight will be in charge of directing the movie.

The movie takes place 10 years after the storyline of Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim," which aired in July 2013. The plot of the sequel centers around Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), who is the son of General Stacker Pentecost, the Jaeger commander in Del Toro's 2013 film.

In the trailer, Jake Pentecost was shown to be a young adult who had no interest in following his father's footsteps. This behavior by Boyega's role was later verified after Pentecost was seen sleeping drunk during the aftermath of what appears to be a house party.

However, the trailer reveals later on that Pentecost would soon follow his father's wishes, which is to be a pilot and fight for humanity. Much of the sequel makes use of principles that made the 2013 film a success.

However, the big twist here is that the return of the "Kaiju" is due to a hidden agenda among the characters, as opposed to the natural occurrence in the 2013 movie. Furthermore, Jaeger pilots in this show appear to be less prepared and experienced, unlike in the prequel.

While Del Toro made use of noir-like characteristics such as darkness and water in his film, Steven DeKnight hinted in the trailer that the movie will be bright and colorful, but intense nonetheless.

Also, the new set of Jaegers seem to have a few extra weapons that were not seen previously. The trailer shows the Jaegers activating weapons that looks like a chainsaw, whip, and a greatsword.

Fans can watch the return of the mecha vs. monster film on March 23.
