Video game developer and publisher Epic Games has officially announced that they will be shutting down their free-to-play multiplayer game "Paragon" on April 26 because they do not think the game has an actual future.

This revelation came straight from the developer's mouth as they wrote about their decision to shut down their game on the official website. According to the statement, they decided to cancel the project was because they do not think "Paragon" can grow into a game with a sustainable player base.

"After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn't a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable," the "Paragon" team wrote. "We didn't execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you — despite the team's incredibly hard work — and we're sorry."

Because of this unfortunate outcome, Epic Games will be offering full refunds to any and every "Paragon" player for any transaction they may have made in-game. This refund option will be available for both platforms and will come directly from Epic themselves.

While unfortunate, this news is not entirely unexpected either. Some time ago, a "Paragon" developer wrote a post on Reddit explaining the current status of the game in terms of development.

In the post, the developer claims that one of the big reasons for "Paragon's" slow progress is Epic's latest free-to-play title, "Fortnite."

"Fortnite" is by far Epic Game's most popular game right now, riding on the coattails of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" while having its own unique charm as well. Because the game has gotten so big and so popular, many members from the "Paragon" team had to jump ship and move over to "Fortnite" to help sustain the game with its ever-growing player count.
