Several months after the last episode of season six aired earlier this year, fans of "Parks and Recreation" are now being given an early holiday present as NBC announced the airing date of the hit comedy-mockumentary's final season. 

On Dec. 1, the network finally shared their plans to air the seventh, 13-episode season starting Tuesday, Jan. 13. NBC also announced that two episodes will air every week, which means that the entire season will only last for six weeks. NBC reportedly decided to cut the seventh season short because they want to gather more viewers to the show in its final season. 

"Mike Schur and Amy Poehler, along with their incredible producers, cast, and crew, have given us one of the great television comedies of all time, and we're inordinately proud of Parks And Recreation. In an effort to give it the send-off it deserves, we wanted to 'eventize' the final season to maximize the impact of these episodes, which really do take the show to a new level," chairman Robert Greenblatt of NBC Entertainment said. 

This might be a good move from the network, as the two-episode per week strategy could force avid viewers to ultimately tune in each time so that they will not miss out on any of the plots in the series. 

The season 6 finale of "Parks and Recreation" showed a big time jump in the life of Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler. Leslie's new job at the City Hall is stressing her out, but she becomes very successful in everything that she does while she raises her triplets. 

"Parks and Recreation" also features noted stars including Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Jim O'Heir, and Aubrey Plaza. 

Although there are no spoilers for the plot of the upcoming season, series creator Michael Schur promised that it will be something worth waiting for. 

The back-to-back episodes of "Parks and Recreation" season 7 will be aired starting Jan. 13 from 8 to 9 p.m. on NBC.
