Actor Michael Emerson and executive producer Greg Plageman recently spoke to SpoilerTV and revealed that while CBS has not officially announced that "Person of Interest" season 5 will be the show's last, they are going to treat it as if it is, and this will be reflected in the season 5 story and finale. 

"I feel like we kind of wrap things up every season," said Emerson. "And so I think we'll kind of continue in that same vein, maybe with a hint more finale feeling. But at the same time, I think probably the writers are going to leave it a little bit ambiguous, because we don't know if it's the end of POI as we know it or not. So we kind of have to juggle that." 

Plageman echoed his sentiments and stated that their approach was to treat each season as the show's last and that this would be the same approach for season 5. However, Plageman explained that the creative team knows the exact nature of how the series would end and that they may compress the story to deliver the ending that they want. 

He also stated that they are open to continuing the story of "Person of Interest" through multiple TV movies or even through comic books, similar to how "Smallville" continued its official 11th season on paper once its television series had ended. 

Emerson also addressed the possibility of a crossover with "Elementary," which stars Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. Emerson stated that while a crossover may be interesting in some aspects, it would be quite tricky to pull off given how different their shows are. 

"Person of Interest" will return mid-season next year. Seasons 1 to 3 are currently available on Netflix with season 4 scheduled to follow on Sept. 22. Syndication for the show started on Sept. 1 on the WGN network.
