"Person of Interest" season 5 may be the final season for the show as the total number of episodes have been reduced to just 13 from its 22-23 episode run in previous seasons. In response to this, fans have launched an official campaign on Change.org to keep the show going by adding new episodes or moving the series to another network.

"We feel that 'Person of Interest' deserves more than 13 episodes for season 5. But also that we don't want to see this series end. If it is on its last leg we'd like to see another network or even Netflix pick it up. Just don't let it die," reads the petition. 

Although the series has not yet been officially canceled, executive producer Greg Plageman explained in an interview with Comic Book Resource that the season 5 finale can simply end the season while opening doors for another one or can also serve as the series's official end.

"This has always been a show where every season finale felt like it could have been a series finale. And this year will be no different," he explains.

In the same interview "Person of Interest" star Michael Emerson stated, "I feel like we kind of wrap things up every season. And so I think we'll kind of continue in that same vein, maybe with a hint more 'finale' feeling."

Emerson also hinted that the show could carry on through comic books similar to how "Smallville" went from television to comic books for its eleventh season.

Many other shows have been canceled and later found new life in other networks or on Netflix. "Longmire" was recently canceled by A&E after three seasons and was picked up for a fourth season on Netflix. Netflix also picked up "Arrested Development" years after the show was cancelled on Fox.

"Person of Interest" season 5 is expected to premiere in 2016.
