'Person of Interest' season 5 spoilers, plot: Shaw returns after being kidnapped by Samaritan

Shaw (Sarah Shahi) is definitely alive in Person of Interest Season 5.CBS

One of the main characters in the previous seasons of "Person of Interest" will return in season 5 despite the show having a reduced episode order from CBS.

TV Line exclusively confirmed that Sarah Shahi, the actress who portrays the role of former government assassin-turned-ally Sameen Shaw, is returning in the upcoming season of the sci-fi crime drama created by Jonathan Nolan.

Shahi had to leave "Person of Interest" in the middle of its fourth season due to her pregnancy. The actress gave birth to twins on March 1. Her character was captured by Samaritan in the episode titled "If-Then-Else." The succeeding episodes dealt with the repercussion of her abduction, and fans of the show where guessing whether she is already dead or if she is still alive. Her brief comeback at the end of the season revealed that she is still alive.

"I go back in September — full-time," Shahi told the panel during the recently concluded CBS Television Critics Association summer press tour early this week.

She also said that she will possibly appear in eight or nine episodes out of the total 13 episodes ordered this season. However, Shahi also confessed that she has no idea what the writers are plotting for her character this season. Fortunately, series showrunner Greg Plageman knows what's in store for Shaw in season 5.

"Sarah is coming back in a big, monstrous way as early as episode 3," Plageman revealed. "We don't have an air date, so we can actually move these things around. I actually think you'll see her earlier than you thought, and once you see Shaw, she isn't going back."

Shahi also assumes that her character had somehow changed after being abducted by the enemy for a long time.

The fifth season of "Person of Interest" might be the last for the series, although CBS has yet to confirm this news.
