Fans of "Person of Interest" are in need of more signatures for their petition to save the series from getting axed by CBS. The sci-fi drama's fifth season will reportedly be its last, but fans are not ready to give up on their favorite TV show yet.

While the show isn't the biggest ratings performer for CBS, the sci-fi crime drama has earned a relatively huge fanbase, which is now banding together in the hopes of saving the show from its doom.

In a petition on Change.org, fans argue that "Person of Interest" is "so great in fact that newer TV shows are copying it."

It was through the show that friendships were built, tears were shed and laughs were shared.

"It entertains us, [thrills] us, makes us cry and makes us laugh. It gives us LGBT representation and gives us some of the truest representations of a mental disorder," the petitioner added.

As of this writing, the petition needs 3500 more signatures.

Fans are hoping that "Person of Interest" season 5 won't be the end of it all and that either CBS will give the show another shot or another network or a web streaming service like Netflix could pick it up to make it at least one season longer.

This is not impossible though, taking into account Netflix's revival of the crime drama "Longmire," which faced A&E's chopping block after three seasons. The show is now headed for a fifth run on the streaming giant.

There has been no news on a premiere date for "Person of Interest" season 5. CBS removed it from its midseason schedule and is yet to lock in a new launch date, which hints that the show's return might be delayed.

Fears about "Person of Interest" season 5 getting axed started when the number of episodes of the show was slashed from 22 to 13. Executive producer JJ Abrams hinted last month that the episodes in the upcoming episodes were designed to wrap up the show.
