'Persona 5' release date: Atlus to showcase title at Tokyo Game Show

It is no surprise that the upcoming "Persona 5" role-playing action game is set to appear at this year's Tokyo Game Show convention. However, rather than a simple presentation, the title's developer is apparently set to pull out all stops for their showcase.

In this year's TGS, Atlus has listed an event dubbed as "Persona Special Stage" which will be held on Sept. 19 from 2:30 p.m. Japan Standard Time, and the whole show will last for an hour. Siliconera reports that focusing on the "Persona" series, the stage event will apparently feature some of the franchise's popular talents like Lotus Juice, Shihoko Hirata, vocalist Yumi Kawamura, and others who will also be performing during the said event.

Meanwhile, games industry insider Gematsu came across a tweet from games shop Genki, based in Wakayama, of an apparent poster for the new, upcoming installment. The poster features the main protagonist of "Persona 5" together with Anne Takamaki, Ryuji Sakamoto, and the title's shape-shifting cat, Morgana. In addition, the tweet also mentions that there will be a "Persona 5: Pursue the Phantom Thief Party" campaign that will happen from Sept. 17 to 19.

According to some observers and fans of the series, Atlus may finally announce the game's release date at the convention. One more rumor that is circulating is that "Persona 5" will come out this year both in Japan and North America.

"Persona 5" is the latest installment in the series, featuring a high-school boy who is able to unleash an inner personality – a Persona – named Arsene. In the game's teaser website, Arsene is seen as a man with a masked face clad in red and with a pair of huge, black wings. The website also refers to the Persona as a "phantom thief" and also mentions the thief character Arsene Lupin.
