It was previusly reported that Atlus has further delayed the release of "Persona 5" on the PS3 and PS4 and has now schedule the game's release for 2016. According to a report from Realty Today, this delay might not just be to further improve the game but also to work on possible DLC.

The "Persona" games have never utilized DLC before but there have been numerous versions and spin-offs of some of the titles, particularly "Persona 4." "Persona 3" did have additional content via the "Persona 3: FES" bonus disc but this was released in North America along with the main game as "Persona 3: Director's Cut."

The game initially launched on the PS2 before it was given an HD upgrade for its PS3 port and later a port to the PS Vita titled "Persona 4: Golden." Several pseudo-sequels were released as well including "Persona 4: Arena" and "Persona 4: Dancing All Night." 

It is possible that "Persona 5" may include these later additions within the game itself as DLC instead of releasing them as entirely new games slapped with a full price. According to the report, there are indications that the first DLC for "Persona 5" may simply be cosmetic in nature, although there are no confirmations regarding this.

Even if the rumor proves to be true, cosmetic changes in "Persona 5" may lead to other in-game changes as well. The "Persona" games are known for directly linking the characters' looks with their spiritual Persona and it is possible that new costumes, unlocked via DLC, could also unlock different Personas for the characters to use.

The report also cites that fan discussions on forums and Reddit imply that there is a strong push for DLC packs for "Persona 5." However, the developers have to confirm if they do indeed have any plans on working on DLC or if they will simply release the game and move on to the next title in the series.

"Persona 5" will release for the PS3 and PS4 by summer 2016.
