The Philadelphia Eagles will not be in the playoffs for the second consecutive season and despite a losing year, head coach Chip Kelly is looking forward to keep his job for another season.

Philadelphia's playoff hopes were crushed after Saturday's 38–24 defeat to division rivals the Washington Redskins. The loss gave the Eagles a 6-9 record for the third spot in the National Football Conference (NFC) East.

In Kelly's first year as a head coach for the Eagles in 2013, they became NFC East champions but fell in the Wild Card Playoffs versus the New Orleans Saints.

Kelly's second season went well as the Eagles finished second in the division with a 10–6 record, but it was not enough to catapult them to the playoffs.

Now, in his third season, the 52-year-old coach experienced his first losing season with the team and in a report by ESPN, his head coaching job might be in jeopardy.

According to the report, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio stated that Eagles owner Jeff Lurie is set to meet with Kelly after their final regular season game this Sunday against the New York Giants.

Following the defeat to the Redskins, Kelly took the blame and said, according to The Guardian, "I think we're good enough. We just have to put them in better position to make plays. It's 100% on my shoulders. It's unacceptable."

Despite a bad season, Kelly also expressed confidence and said he is not worried about his job. He added though that it was not good enough, but he will continue working.

The last time the Eagles had much success in the postseason was in the 2008 season when Andy Reid was still the team's head coach.

In that 2008 season, Reid led the Eagles to as far as the Conference Championship where they failed to defeat the Arizona Cardinals.

Reid began coaching the Eagles in 1999 and left after the 2012 season, becoming the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs starting the 2013 season.
