The Eagles have had a very busy offseason and LeSean McCoy, Nick Foles, Evan Mathis, and Trent Cole have all said their goodbyes to Philadelphia for this season. Most of the secondary have gone, and the roster has been widely revamped in a reaction to what was ultimately a disappointing season last year.

A new look and hopefully new fortunes will be hoped for by Philadelphia fans this season, and if today's game goes well then the sense of optimism could rise a notch or two. However, a defeat here and the skeptics will grow and the sense that this may just be a transition year could take grip that much more.

It is difficult to know what to expect from the Eagles tonight, and with numerous players, including Bradford, Murray, Mathews, Alonso and safety Walter Thurmond, all coming off injuries or at extra risk of injury, that uncertainty is heightened that much more.

As with last year, many pundits are predicting that the Eagles will easily stomp to victory in the NFC East. Last season things did not pan out as many had predicted though, but again on paper you'd have to say Philadelphia are the clear favorites.

The Dallas Cowboys managed a last gasp win over the New York Giants last night, but on the measure of that game, neither the Cowboys nor the Giants look likely to storm away with the division, leaving things open for the Eagles if they grab their opportunities.

Meanwhile, the Falcons signed coach Dan Quinn from Seattle and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan from Cleveland in what many are calling a shrewd bit of business. Together Quinn and Shanahan are expected to freshen things up and inject new life into the franchise. Whether they will be able to have such an instant affect as to shake things up for tonight's game remains to be seen, but things look a lot more optimistic for Falcons fans at the start of this new season.
