Console fans of "Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire" will be eternally grateful for the developers of the game, as the roleplaying game (RPG) sequel has just had its console version announced for release this year.

Not only will the game be arriving on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One, there will also be a Nintendo Switch version. However, the console release will not happen alongside the PC and Mac versions, which are due on Apr. 3 worldwide. As such, the console version will likely arrive on later dates. No official announcements have been made when specifically in 2018, though it can be expected before the year ends, which is still a long way to go from now.

Obsidian Entertainment, the developer and publisher of the game for PC and Mac, has even given a statement regarding the upcoming console version, "Bringing the Pillars brand to new and exciting platforms like the Switch is something that hits the Obsidian team's inner child, since most of us have been playing on Nintendo hardware as far back as the 8-bit days. We simply can't wait to see what our console fans think of Deadfire when it comes out."

They are also quite proud of how the console version of the predecessor "Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition" turned out, hence their decision to port the sequel to the consoles in the same year as the PC and Mac release.

There are also no preorder options available yet for the console versions, and it is not yet certain whether they will have the same Standard, Deluxe and Obsidian Editions available as that of the PC and Mac versions. With that said, website Bleeding Cool suggested that these might soon be announced come summer 2018 after the PC and Mac versions get released.

It is also worth noting that the console versions will be handled by Red Cerberus game studio and not the Obsidian developers themselves since they have their hands full of the PC and Mac versions.
