"Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire," the upcoming role-playing game (RPG) developed by Obsidian Entertainment, is scheduled to launch on May 8 instead of the initial release date of Apr. 3.

Obsidian the news in a post on Mar. 13 on its official website. The developer said that they will use the delay to polish and put finishing touches on the upcoming game, which Obsidian said is bigger than the original "Pillars of Fire." To tide players over until the new launch date, Obsidian will be continuously publishing "Deadfire"-related news and contents over the next weeks and months.

According to the Steam page of the game, players will take on the role of the Watcher of Caed Nua in "Deadfire." Apparently, the god Eothas, who was once thought to be dead had returned to life, in the form of a colossal statue. He had gone rogue and is wrecking havoc with everything and everyone that crosses his way. Players are tasked to discover the purpose of Eothas' reincarnation and decide whether to help or halt his actions.

The upcoming game will introduce a new region called Deadfire. It is a chain of islands that comprise a big city, fiery volcanoes, fearsome pirates and dismal sandbars. Players will engage in different interactions and quests with the region's inhabitants — but beware, as some may be of help and some are plain dangerous.

Players can choose from seven different companions to join them in their quests. They will also have the control over assigning the classes and abilities for each companion. Two of the seven companions include Edér, a loyal companion who stayed out of a sense of personal duty and Serafen, an unpredictable companion with mysterious reasons for joining the quests.

"Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire" is now available for pre-purchase on Steam.
