Captain Jack Sparrow will return to his roots in the soon-to-be released "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," according to actress Kaya Scodelario. 

The newcomer on the set of the blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise recently shared with Digital Spy what movie goers should look forward to when the fifth installment hits the big screen. She said that the movie aims to bring back some of the fan-favorite elements featured in the first film, titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Course of the Black Pearl," which was released in 2003. 

"[The producers] want to take it back to the beginning again. They wanted it to have this epic journey, and for it to make sense, and for it to tie things up, and also lead to new storylines," the 23-year-old actress said during the press tour for her latest film, "The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials." 

Scodelario will portray the role of Carina Smyth, who she described is an astronomer and scholar during a time when female students at a university were rare. 

"So she's on her own journey — looking for the trident of Poseidon — and she has a diary with clues, and she encounters Jack Sparrow along the way, and he messes everything up. As he does. And it's fun!" the "Skins" alum shared. 

Aside from Scodelario, Australian actor Brenton Thwaites will also be added to the growing line-up of cast members of the fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. Thwaites, who played Jonas in the 2014 film "The Giver," will portray the role of Davy Jones' son Henry. The character will attempt to break the curse that prevents him from meeting his father. 

Johnny Depp will reprise his wildly popular role of Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom will also return to play his character Will Turner, while Geoffrey Rush will bring back Captain Hector Barbossa. The film's latest villain, Captain Salazar, will be portrayed by Javier Bardem. 

"Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Men Tells No Tales" will premiere on July 7, 2017.
