After missing its target beta launch date for PlayStation 4 in December 2014, the new date for the trial phase of "Planetside 2" is now expected to happen sometime within the next two weeks. 

The registration phase for the beta testing of "Planetside 2" began last month, but the promised schedule for the testing was delayed. No information was given about the cause of the delay, as well as its new release date. But on Jan. 6, Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley released a statement about the free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter game in his Twitter account.

According to Smedley, "We will be announcing the beta start date in the next few days for Planetside 2 on PS4."

He also followed it up with the statement that the upcoming announcement will provide the explanation about the company's roll out plans for the game, among others. 

Meanwhile, Smedley also address the fans' concern about the sudden nerf implants and the accusations that the company is just milking the game for more money. The Sony Online Entertainment president admitted that "PlanetSide 2" just started to become profitable despite the release of its PC edition a couple of years ago.

"Planetside 2 only recently has turned profitable on an operating basis," the president said. "When I say recently, I'm talking about a few months here. Anyone that thinks we're swimming in cash is plain wrong. Don't get me wrong, the plan for any game is to make money.. and we believe in the long term future of the game.. which is why you're seeing the PS4 version going into beta very soon (we'll officially announce it in the next couple of days)." 

He also explained that the implants are part of the necessary steps to balance the cert economy of the game for its sustainability. 

"PlanetSide 2," distributed since November 2012, is a revamped version of the game that was originally released back in 2003.
