Battle royale first-person shooter "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" ("PUBG") officially left Steam Early Access earlier this December, after nine months of constant updating. The most impressive part of this is that "PUBG" already has 30 million players across PC and Xbox as it launches version 1.0. This data was reported by game developers PUBG Corporation.

While the game already tracked 30 million players this month, another milestone was achieved by the game last month when it reportedly sold a total of 20 million units.

The game debuted last March, and reaching 30 million players this month is a significant number, considering that the game is not even out for a whole year.

Only a massively multiplayer few games achieve this feat. An example is Blizzard's multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) "Overwatch," which reached the 30 million mark eleven months after release. The original "Destiny" by Activision had 20 million registered players eight months after release, although numbers for its latest sequel "Destiny 2" has not been disclosed by the company yet.

What sets "PUBG" apart from these games is that it is not supported by major publishers like Blizzard or Activision. The game in its Early Access state is not even that polished yet, and some of its flaws proved most glaring when the Xbox One port came out.

However, players see that the game has a lot of potential, and updates to improve the game are released on a regular basis. Just this month, developers released a kill-cam and replay feature to give insight on player deaths and to curb cheating. Along with the new desert map called "Miramar," these new camera features are some of the major additions to the game when it officially launched as "PUBG" v1.0.

"PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" is now available on Steam for Windows PC and it has a "Game Preview Edition" for the Xbox One.
