PlayStation 4 online multiplayer is free this week for Europe and Australia
This week, Sony is letting players experience the joy of online gaming for free. PlayStation 4 (PS4) users in Europe and Australia will get access to the PlayStation Plus service, without any cost, from Nov. 15–20.
This news comes from a post on the official PlayStation Blog for the EU region. In it, PS Store and Plus Content Manager Chris Howe invited PlayStation 4 owners to experience the "delights of online play."
The free multiplayer experience will be available to gamers in Europe and Australia, as Australia also made a separate announcement via a promotional post on their official site. No official word yet if the same promo will be made available to North America.
Both announcements basically invite PS4 users to play online for free, with the only difference being the deadline on different timezones. For Europe, the promo runs from Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. GMT or 11 a.m. CET up toNov. 20 at 10 a.m. GMT or 11 a.m. CET. For Australia, the promotion will last from Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. AEDT until Nov.20 at 9 p.m. AEDT.
There is no sign-up process needed to avail the offer. Players just need to fire up their game and they will find that the online multiplayer option will be unlocked at the specified times.
The announcements also let players know that signing up for a full PlayStation Plus subscription gets them more than just access to the online modes of PS4 games. For $60 a year, a PS Plus subscriber gets exclusive discounts on the PlayStation Store. They also get two free games for the PS4 every month.
As noted by GameSpot, the wording on the official announcements imply that the free PS Plus week does not include access to the free games. They also stated that when PS Plus subscribers choose to opt out of the service sometime in the future, they also lose access to said free games.
