With the way Sony and Microsoft have been battling it out to win video gaming supremacy, both companies were supposed to have introduced their respective next-generation game consoles by now, effectively refreshing the long-standing rivalry between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. But instead of offering completely new devices, both have unveiled hardware upgrades for the current consoles. While the Xbox One has the improved Xbox One S, Sony's PlayStation 4 is offering the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Mirror UK sums up the improvements gamers will get from the PS4 Pro: a newer processor, a more advanced graphics processing unit, and support for 4K resolution gaming. However, not everyone is sold on the idea of purchasing a new game console while accepting the fact that it really isn't a new one. Well, it's not for everyone, but the PS4 Pro is one game console that will certainly improve gaming experience while at the same time taking away nothing from the old PS4.

With regard to appearance, the body is a lot taller than the old PS4, although the design is quite familiar since Sony decided there is no reason to come up with a total aesthetics change. But because there is already a bigger power supply plus the fact that hardware has improved significantly, the PS4 Pro is noticeably heavier. One improvement that owners of the PS4 might not agree with is the ditching of the touch-sensitive buttons as they are replaced by a standard and physical power and eject button.

Going back to the hardware specifications, the PS4 Pro is a definite upgrade to the current-generation PS4, highlighted by the octa-core central processing unit (CPU), 8 GB of random access memory (RAM), and a 1 TB of hard drive. More importantly, there's the addition of a 4.2 teraflops AMD Polaris graphics processing unit (GPU), enabling the device to be doubly fast compared to the old console.

The PS4 Pro was released this month and is already available worldwide.
