Sony has released a new firmware update for all PlayStation 4 consoles. However, it looks like the console's users will have to keep their expectations low as the new firmware version does not bring major upgrades.

Version 5.03 is said to be just a minor update, although Sony promised that it will improve system performance.

The upgrade will be mandatory installed. Users just have to turn their PlayStation 4 on, and then the upgrade will be downloaded automatically when the device is in Rest Mode.

The update's file size is about 375 MB. However, if the user is going to download the update's backup version to a flash drive, it will be about 910.4 MB.

Compared to the new 5.03 firmware update, October's version 5.0 upgrade for PlayStation 4 brought along a lot of improvements and new features, including built-in streaming capabilities and a much better Friends Lists. Also, the device's Quick Menu became handier and new and improved parental control features were added.

On the other hand, the 5.03 firmware update for PlayStation 4 does not bring the upgrades that users have been waiting for. Specifically, players have been wanting to change their PSN names. At the recent PlayStation Experience 2017, Sony teased that this might finally happen within a year.

According to reports, PlayStation 4 definitely had a good year in terms of total sales, but, unfortunately, 2017 has not been a great one. Sony has even faced a major blow in the latest Google search rankings.

As the search engine revealed the greatest consumer tech searches of 2017, PlayStation 4 did not make it to the top 10. The most searched gadget of the year was Apple's iPhone 8 followed by the iPhone X.

Nintendo Switch landed the third spot, while the Samsung Galaxy 8 is seated at fourth and the Xbox One X is at fifth place. The sixth to tenth ranks were filled by other smartphones.
