Game enthusiasts have been waiting for the release of PlayStation 5, although Sony is still keeping things about it under wraps. The much-awaited game console is expected to be the next big thing. But as it is bound to secrecy, it is often surrounded by assumptions and speculations.

Microsoft just launched its new Xbox One X, while Nintendo Switch is doing well in the market. However, Sony remains to offer its PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. Although these two seem to sell well in the coming months, it will be no time that its maker will introduce something new.

Sony has yet to announce the official release of PlayStation 5, but rumors have it that it will be in 2018 the earliest or 2020 the latest. This assumption is heightened by the emergence of the 4K device in the market. The 4K resolution is said to affect the coming hardware in the future, including the PS5.

If PS5 will indeed come in 2020, its maker will probably continue selling PS4 Pro until the new game console arrives. This will give the 4K TV enough time to market its device and the game console makers to create a new device that could perfectly work with its hardware.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot predicts during an investors' call that the new generation of game consoles will be unveiled after two years. This could be in 2019 and will surely include PlayStation 5.

During the investors' call for Ubisoft's latest financial results, Guillemot strongly believed the mid-generation hardware updates could mean it will take a little more time before game enthusiasts can see new devices coming out. With the revelation of the new Xbox One X this year and PlayStation 4 pro last year, it is still far that gamers will lay their hands on a new game console.

"We think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming," he said. However, Guillemot cleared that it is just his assumption and he does not know any secret information about PS5's release.
