'Pokemon Go' cheats, tips, tricks: New tracking techniques revealed following beta update

Pokemon GoThe Pokemon Company/Niantic

"Pokemon Go" recently saw an update that completely altered the tracking system. The former "three-step" tracking method has been removed and in its place is a grass icon that indicates whether a Pokemon is close or not. When the grass icon disappears, the creature is too far. A report from IBTimes has now revealed tips how to make use of the new tracking system.

According to the report, the key to finding Pokemon using this new system is to create several points on the map. The first described step is to note the starting point, where the Pokemon with a grass icon is visible, as Point A. From there the player must walk in a straight line until the grass icon disappears. This will be Point B.

The player will then go back to Point A and walk in a separate direction until the grass icon again disappears, marking this as Point C. The next step is to reach the area between Point B and Point C, marking this middle area as Point D. Finding the Pokemon will then be a matter of walking in directions around Point D.

It is also pointed out that the "nearby" section has been brought back. Any Pokemon listed in this menu are guaranteed to be close to a PokeStop and this can be a good starting point when looking for the general direction of a Pokemon to catch.

According to the report, the original "three steps" tracking system had to be removed because of a glitch that portrayed all of the Pokemon with an indicator of three steps instead of one or two regardless of their distance. For a brief period the game had removed all forms of tracking methods, leaving players with no clue on how close or how far they were to a Pokemon.
