'Pokémon GO' Eevee evolution guide: How fans can pick up Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon

"Pokémon GO" has now become a craze for both hardcore fans and casual players. Although the title is still a franchise sim game, other details signature to the series have also made it to the title such as the complex evolution of some Pokémon like Eevee.

Eevee is one of the rarer Pokémon when it comes to evolution. Although the base creature can be captured fairly easily for some with the right items, Eevee's evolution is much more complex. For example, staying through to the franchise, "Pokémon GO" also evolves Eevee into different first-gen evolution of Pokémon, depending on the player's preferred elemental properties.

However, how can players trick the system into having their own preferred evolution, instead of the random transformation? According to Nintendo Everything, some enterprising players have found out a neat little trick for fans to choose between the three first-gen evolutions of the fox Pokémon.

Reportedly, players only need to change the nicknames for Eevee before attempting evolution. For the electric-type Jolteon, the nickname should be changed to Sparky; for the water-type Vaporeon, change the name to Rainer; and for the fire-type Flareon, the nickname should be set to Pyro.

It seems that the Easter Egg trick is developer Niantic referencing the original storyline for the "Pokémon" franchise. In the original anime, there were three Pokémon trainers who owned Eevee evolutions. The three brothers are named Sparky, Rainer, and Pyro.

Choosing what Eevee will evolve into depends on the player's preference and play style. In the recent update, Niantic has introduced rebalances for different Pokémon evolutions. Vaporeon now has the highest stamina among the three evolutions. Meanwhile, Flareon has the highest base damage. Although Jolteon seems to be the weakest of the three, the evolution has the higher chances of winning against water-type Pokémon, even against a Vaporeon.
