Niantic Labs has taken the mechanics from the earlier Pokemon games, which means that the longer the distance, the rarer the Pokemon to be obtained once the egg hatches.

As for those who want a more comprehensive guide about hatching eggs, the mechanics are pretty simple to follow. After starting "Pokemon GO," the player is given one incubator as a starting item. This incubator will have unlimited uses, so it is advised to use it whenever an egg is obtained. However, as the player levels up, they will get additional incubators as rewards, but these have limited uses and will break after being used after three times.

Players who are willing to spend some real money can buy more of these incubators using PokeCoins at the Shop. This way, they can hatch the eggs they obtain from Pokestops, since a player can only carry a maximum of nine eggs at a time. Using an incubator to hatch an egg requires the player to fill up the distance meter needed for it to hatch. However, there is also a certain speed limit that should be followed so the eggs will hatch.

As such, IGN reports that the GPS will work in sync with the phone's built-in pedometer, so going inside a car and driving a few kilometers will not hatch it. With this, players should either take a walk or just drive slowly instead.
