With developer Niantic's recent updates for its hit augmented reality game "Pokémon GO," players still find workarounds for some of its features. It is said that third-party apps such as the IV calculator can still be used without the players getting banned.

According to industry followers, one surefire way to make sure those third-party apps will not be traced back is to use IV calculators without IV log-ins. This will ensure that the "Pokémon GO" account is independent of any outside apps, so that details and player credentials will not be scanned even with official game updates. There are third-party IV calculators that can be independently used without log-ins, such as Poke Assistant. There are also online IV calculators that don't need to be linked to "Pokémon GO" like The Silph Road IV Rater.

Meanwhile, aside from third-party apps, Niantic has also installed a new feature in the recent "Pokémon GO" update that may give players ballpark figures on how strong their Pokémon are. The new Appraisal feature has been translated into IV numbers by Gamepress, depending on what the Team Leaders on the respective gym teams tell trainers. Each Team Leader for Valor, Mystic, and Instinct have their own patterns that can gauge Pokémon levels. The IV can then be gauged by gym trainers depending on what the Team Leader said to check if their Pokémon is strong enough to take on other teams.

Pokémon IV, or individual values, are the strengths and weaknesses of the Pokémon that are arranged into percentage numbers to check levels. Although IV stats appear random, there are set values depending on the Pokémon specie, level, and CP multiplier. The core stats of the Pokémon like Attack, Defense, and HP are also included in the calculation. In addition, the trainer's levels also affect IV stats.
