"Pokemon GO" trainers were expecting to see a New Year's event for 2018. However, Niantic did not roll out any event for the New Year. With that, players should be contented with the ongoing holiday event of the augmented reality game.

Although some players are disappointed for the lack of a new event, the holiday event still offers many interesting things that help gamers level up faster. The December update started on Dec. 22 and will last until Jan. 4.

As part of the holiday event, over 20 new Pokemon were added to the game including Delibird and a Santa Hat Pikachu. Delibird has the ability to throw gifts to its enemies using the attack Present. Aside from Delibird, other costumed Pikachu can also use the attack. Players also saw a boost in the amounts of Ice-type Pokemon in order to celebrate the end of the year.

There were also no surprise announcements for the New Year with only a new set of discounted item bundles on sale in "Pokemon GO's" in-game store. Premium Raid Passes, Lucky Eggs, and Star Pieces are also on sale until the event ends. Apart from that, Niantic also extended the effectivity of lures. Instead of lasting for only 30 minutes, Lure Modules can now last for six hours.

The official "Pokemon GO" Twitter account shared the good news with its followers on Dec. 21. The post also adds that the extended time for the Lure Modules will give everyone a chance to catch more Pokemon originally from the Hoenn region.

In another news, players are not pleased with one of its Gen 3 Regional exclusives, the Relicanth. This Pokemon is the most impossible to catch since it is just available on the islands of Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, and New Zealand. Because of the very small spawning location of this water and rock-type Pokemon, most players will not be able to catch it.
