Niantic launched a huge "Pokemon Go" event that aims to draw its players back by tasking them to go around the world to capture billions of Pokemon. With the Global Catch Challenge, "Pokemon Go" trainers around the world will need to go out and about to capture a whopping three billion Pokemon collectively in order to unlock all the rewards.

The game developer is only giving its players one week to complete the challenge. This would mean that all "Pokemon Go" players will have to participate in the task in order to better their chances at completing it. The challenge started Monday and will end Sunday. Along the way, players can unlock items that would benefit their quest for more Pokemon.

The first set of prizes will arrive with the Bronze reward that can be obtained once players have caught 500 million monsters. At this milestone, players will get double experience and six-hour timers on incense in order to attract more Pokemon.

At the 1.5 billion Pokemon mark, players will be able to unlock the Silver reward. This set will have the same rewards as the first set, plus double stardust. Niantic will also make even more Pokemon appear at this point.

Finally, players will be able to unlock the highest reward, Gold, after hitting the goal of three billion Pokemon caught. At this point, players will get all the prizes from the Silver reward, and some exclusive Pokemon will become available globally. There will be an exclusive Farfetch'd that will be available to be caught for 48 hours only. Furthermore, Kangaskhan, which is normally only available in Oceania, will be unlocked for all players in East Asia for 48 hours.

Aside from the Global Catch Challenge, Niantic is also launching "Pokemon Go Travel," a series of videos that will feature players from all over the globe. The series aims to show viewers the world through the eyes of a Pokemon Trainer.
