'Pokemon Go' Thanksgiving event news: Gamers enjoy double XP and Stardust; Ditto finally added to game

"Pokémon GO" has officially announced the release of Ditto in the wild.Pokémon

It looks like "Pokemon Go" gamers are going to get more XP and Stardust this Thanksgiving season.

Earlier this week, the "Pokemon Go" development team announced that it was sending in another fun little promo for gamers as they continue and capture all sorts of Pokemon across the globe. Providing twice the number of XP and Stardust gained when gamers complete actions in the game, the promo started setting in motion yesterday, Nov. 23, at 00:00 UTC and the event is set to last till Wednesday next week, Nov. 30, at 00:00 UTC.

"It has been an incredible experience since we launched 'Pokémon GO' a few short months ago in July. We are passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise," reads the announcement posted by the development team. "We are humbled that hundreds of millions of you around the world have joined us on this journey. So we would like to say thank you - and what better way to say thank you than to celebrate our community," it adds.

According to Forbes, while the Thanksgiving event isn't as exciting as Niantic's previous promo during the Halloween where the game actually featured spookier Pokemon in "Pokemon Go," the new event could entice more players to try out the game and give avid players more satisfaction playing the app. While double XP and double Stardust seem pretty simple, it means that every action in the game becomes twice more valuable than before. If good players can rake in 50,000-60,000 XP from just one session of mass evolution, think of how much XP can be gained with the Thanksgiving XP and Stardust double?

In other "Pokemon Go" news, Tech Crunch reports that shape-shifting Pokemon Ditto has finally been added to "Pokemon Go." Though it won't show up in its true form on the map by taking the shape of a different Pokemon, when gamers catch a seemingly common Pokemon on the app, the disguised Ditto will finally reveal itself to its new owner.
