The Pokemon Company has released a new trailer that gives insight into many of the new mechanics and changes that will be implemented into "Pokemon Sun and Moon" such as Z-Moves and new Pokemon. However, as stated in a report from Polygon, one of the most drastic change is the alteration of the traditional Gym system.

In traditional "Pokemon" games, each city has a Pokemon Gym where several of the best trainers stay. This Gym is then led by a particular Gym Leader and beating the Gym Leader rewards the player with a Badge required to finish the game. This system has now been replaced by the Island Challenge Trials system for "Pokemon Sun and Moon."

As stated in the report, the trials are not always centered around combat. The trailer reveals that some of the trials might involve going through a difficult area to find a special item or to calm aggressive Pokemon. Only after succeeding through the trial can the player face the Trial Captain, the games' equivalent of a Gym Leader.

Lana is the Water-type Trial Captain, Mallow is the Grass-type Trial Captain, and Sophocles is the Electric-type Trial Captain and Kiawe is the Fire-type Trial Captain. There is also a match against an island's Totem Pokemon, which can summon allies to aid it in battle. Only after all of this can a player qualify to get the approval of the island's kahuna or judge. Getting the approval from all four islands is required to finish the game's campaign.

Finishing the trials will be done quicker as the report reveals that there is a new system that lets players ride Pokemon to travel to different islands, called the Poke Ride system. It will be different than the traditional system where a Pokemon learns an HM in order to traverse through geographical obstacles.

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" launches for the Nintendo 3DS this Nov. 18.
