'Pokemon Sun and Moon' news 2017: Game sets new sales record during Nintendo's FY17

"Pokemon Sun" and "Pokemon Moon" are arguably among the most celebrated Pokemon games. Soon after the official launch, the titles quickly acquired a huge following. Even up to now, this continues to bloom. In fact, the games have just reached a new sales milestone during the titular Nintendo's FY17.

According to Nintendo's financial results briefing, "Pokemon Sun and Moon" have played a huge role in boosting the sales of the company's 3DS hardware and software. The games reportedly reached a total of 15.44 million shipped units during the company's fiscal year ending March 31. Interestingly, among the factors that made this entirely possible is Niantic's "Pokemon GO."

The sales of Nintendo 3DS system has skyrocketed, surpassing the record it set the previous year, this despite the system being out in the market for seven years already. For the 2017 fiscal year, the company has reported around 7.27 million 3DS systems shipped. This means that year after year, an estimated 500,000 units are being shipped.

As for the software side of things, the publisher of "Pokemon Sun and Moon" sold more than one million copies for the seventh title of the software. "Super Mario Maker" sales, in particular, achieved a total sell-through of around 2.34 million units. "Kirby: Planet Robobot," on the other hand, hit around 1.36 million units soon after its release in April 2016.

In related "Pokemon Sun and Moon" news, TechRadar reports that an extended cut port of the Nintendo's latest title could be coming to Switch soon. Even though it remains unofficial, it is deemed to be "Pokemon Stars." What remains somehow true is the fact that a Pokemon game is coming to the said console. There are those, however, who believe that this could be a brand-new iteration. Either way, this should be taken with a grain of salt.
