"Pokémon Sun and Moon" players now have the chance to power up their pocket monsters. That is because the highly anticipated Mega Stones are finally available. Here is how to acquire them.

According to official "Pokémon" site, the "Pokémon Sun and Moon" stones can be acquired via a free code. It is worth noting that previously, these stones were unavailable for reasons Nintendo has not disclosed. These are required to allow Heracross, Pidgeot, Houndoom and Steelix to Mega Evolve in various battles.

To select the items in "Pokémon Sun and Moon," players will simply have to go to the Mystery Gift option on the menu screen. From there, they will have to choose to receive the Mega Stones using a code. Input "AZUL" as the password and pick up the four stones directly from the delivery man inside any Pokémon Center in either of the games.

Mega Stones were first introduced in "Pokémon X and Y." Its purpose was to allow certain Pokémon to reach Mega Evolution when needed. But in order to do so, these creatures had to be equipped with the right stones only. Doing so gave them significant enhancements, ranging from increased stats to new abilities to varied elemental upgrades. Simply put, the stones allowed them to beat opponents as quickly as possible.

GameSpot noted that in "Pokémon Sun and Moon," Mega Evolutions were initially replaced with Z-Moves. Interestingly, players still have the chance to acquire the Mega Stones soon after the main story is completed. It should be noted, however, that not all of these stones can be obtained; hence, Nintendo distributed the remaining ones at various events and via the Mystery Gift feature.

In related news, "Pokémon Sun and Moon" players were given the opportunity to own Midnight Form Lycanroc. It became available on May 15. Interested players will have to utilize a certain serial code from GameStop stores around the United States.
