Captain Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) is set to return with a new set of challenges when "Poldark" returns for season 2.

In the trailer for the upcoming season, the British war veteran was seen standing on the edge of a cliff, handcuffed and arrested by a group of soldiers because of his involvement in the wrecking of George Warleggan's (Jack Farthing) ship.

The captain said: "I fought for our liberty, for our hopes, for our dreams. And I'll keep on fighting, whatever the cost."

According to Express, Poldark and his wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) will deal with the loss of their daughter, Julia, as well as several problems that will distress their marriage. Poldark will also encounter his ex-lover Elizabeth (Heida Reed), who is now married to his cousin Francis (Kyle Soller). The ex-lovers will reportedly have an affair behind their respective spouses' backs.

In a separate interview with The Sun that was spotted by Express, Turner revealed that BBC One decided to modify the rape scene between Poldark and Elizabeth that was mentioned in the novels written by Wilson Graham for the benefit of the modern audiences.

"It seems consensual, and it just seems right. He goes to talk. He doesn't go to commit a crime," the actor said. "They talk and it seems like there is still this spark between them, this unfinished business emotionally. Certainly, that's how Ross feels. He doesn't force himself upon her."

However, the actor claimed that Poldark is still in love with his wife Demelza even if he sleeps around with his ex-lover.

Meanwhile, BBC already confirmed that "Poldark" will return for a third season before the beginning of season 2. It will reportedly cover the fifth and sixth books of the book series.

"Poldark" season 2 premieres on Sunday, Sept. 4.
