'Poldark' season 4 release date: hit show most likely to air in early summer 2018

It has been weeks since the "Poldark" season 4 filming began, and a series of photos and behind-the-scenes sneak peaks have been swirling around the web. While fans wait for its comeback to the television screens, a BBC source revealed that they are planning an early summer release date of Aidan Turner's show in 2018.

After the period drama aired its finale for season 3, dedicated fans have been eager for its return next year. There are signs hinting that the next run will come out in early summer since the filming for the fourth installment started last month.

Also, a BBC insider suggested to Radio Times that the third season's performance — which garnered an average of 5 million viewers per night — has pleased the network's executives, so they have made plans to repeat the summer schedule. The BCC source said, "We fully expect series four to air in early summer again."

Traditionally, the airtime of the show had been in autumn, but it changed during the release of the third season. The period series was moved to an earlier slot to avoid clashing with "Victoria." This decision came out since the ITV show about the British royal and "Poldark" are under the same production company, the Mammoth Screen.

To add more proof of an early summer "Poldark" season 4 release date, scriptwriter Debbie Horsfield told the same outlet, "I think it has held its own over the summer and so I am guessing that — and it is a guess — that there's no reason to change that."

She further explained, "The thing about the English weather is it's so terrible and it's still raining outside anyway so people stay in to watch TV. Everyone's pleased with the viewing figures and so many people are watching. We start filming in September so we have the freedom to air it in the summer but we have no idea yet."
