Police arrest man over nightclub shooting

Police said on Monday they have arrested a man in connection with the fatal shooting of a London nightclubber over the weekend.

A 35-year-old man was shot in the head and neck outside the "Club Red" in Limehouse, east London early on Sunday.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection with the incident after he attended a south London police station on Sunday evening.

Detectives from Scotland Yard's Trident squad, which deals with gun crime in the black community, are appealing for witnesses.

"There was a helicopter and people shouting and screaming at about four o'clock," 45-year-old shop worker Gloria Antin told the Times newspaper.

"There were huge crowds of people here outside the nightclub. It's pretty terrifying but I'm not surprised. Every weekend we get trouble with people drinking outside the club."

The dead man, who has not yet been named, is the latest to have been murdered in a series of shootings and stabbings in London this year.
