Pope in talks with BBC over radio slot

Pope Benedict XVI is reportedly in talks with the BBC about featuring on Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.

The idea was put to the Vatican by BBC director general Mark Thompson, a Roman Catholic.

The talks may lead to the Pope recording a three-minute message to broadcast at the time of his visit to Britain in September.

Radio 4 controller said the Pope was on his “fantasy wish list” of contributors to the station, according to The Telegraph.

The pre-recorded slot gives leaders of all faiths the opportunity to express their views on topical issues during current affairs programme Today.
