Nowadays, it might be hard to look for book-inspired films that actually give justice to the book. One of the most notable ones that have done so is 1980's "The Shining," and for those who do not know, "The Shining" book series has a sequel which may finally become a movie in the next years.

"Doctor Sleep" is the book sequel of the "The Shining," both written by Stephen King. According to NME.com, it has recently been confirmed that Warner Bros. is making plans to make it into a film with Mike Flanagan as its director. Some fans are quite doubtful given "The Shining's" success and the fact that releasing a sequel will entail high expectations.

To be fair, Flannagan does have a good reputation in terms of directing this sort of a gamble of a movie. Flanagan has directed movies such as "Oculus," "Hush," and "Absentia." In relation to Stephen King, he already has experience in making Stephen King films with "Gerald's Game," which was released for Netflix last year.

The gamble is quite doubled given the fact that Flanagan will be rewriting a screenplay adaptation of "Doctor Sleep" by Akiva Goldsman. According to GameZone, Goldsman has ups and downs with Oscar-winning "A Beautiful Mind" and failures such as "Batman & Robin" and "The Dark Tower."

As for the "Doctor Sleep" book itself, Stephen King released the book last 2013. Given the time gap between the two novels, the book is about an older Danny Torrance, the protagonist. He starts to become like his father but shows signs of struggle. Overall, it generally builds up on the mythos that started from "The Shining."

As for now, with only the news of a director for the film, no release date has been planned, so an announcement for it will likely not come anytime soon. That said, fans should stay tuned for future news from official sources.
