Automaker Porsche launched a new Passport subscription program that will give customers access to a variety of sports cars and SUVs. The on-demand short-term rental program will begin in Atlanta and will start at $2,000.

The program consists of two plans, Launch and Accelerate. Customers who avail of the Launch subscription plan will get access to eight models which include the Cayman S, 718 Boxer, and Cayenne. This level of subscription begins at $2,000 per month.

Drivers who seek more car options can sign up for the upgraded Accelerate plan, which costs $3,000 per month. Through this plan, drivers gain access to 22 models, including popular cars like the 911 Carrera S, Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUV, and the Macan GTS.

The high cost of the membership plans covers vehicle tax and registration, as well as maintenance, insurance, and detailing fees. There will also be a one-time activation fee of $500. Due to the sheer value of the cars that subscribers will be getting access to, the company will also do a background check and a credit check on all aspiring members.

The Passport subscription program is part of Porsche's vision to give customers the flexibility of the subscription model while allowing them to fulfill their aspirations to drive sports cars.

"Our Strategy 2025 vision is to be the most aspirational brand in a new era of mobility and consumer expectations," said President and CEO Klaus Zellmer of Porsche Cars North America. "Catering to customers' desire to experience our sports cars in new ways is a part of our core strategy. With Porsche Passport, we now offer our customers a simple and flexible driving solution at their fingertips."

The subscription program is on its pilot phase in Atlanta, and its success will determine how Porsche will move forward with its car subscription plans in the future.

The Passport subscription service will begin in Atlanta this November.
