Bryan Cranston, famous for his role as Walter White on "Breaking Bad," has officially been cast as Zordon in the upcoming "Power Rangers" movie. Cranston himself announced the news via Twitter and this was later confirmed by the official "Power Rangers" Twitter account, as reported by TV Line

It is noted that this is not the first time Cranston has been involved with the "Power Rangers" franchise. Back in the 1990s, when the original series aired on television, Cranston did the voices for the monsters Twinman and Snizard in the first season of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."

Cranston also pointed out that Billy Cranston aka the Blue Ranger (David Yost) was named in his honor.

The character of Zordon was originally played by David J. Fielding for the first season of the show and later by Robert L. Manahan. In the first "Power Rangers" film Zordon was played by Nicholas Bell. This was also the first time Zordon was seen outside of the large cannister which held his energy and kept him alive.

It is undetermined how much work Bryan Cranston will do as Zordon. It is possible he will be the face and voice of Zordon or just do the voice work. Cranston had willingly shaved his head for "Breaking Bad" and it is possible he will do the same for "Power Rangers."

As stated in a report from Screen Rant, the described prologue for the film will see Zordon fight Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) thousands or even millions of years prior to the movie's main timeline. During this fight Rita traps Zordon in a time capsule but Zordon also manages to lock Rita in a prison cannister.

This Zordon, rumored to be the first Red Ranger, is described as a warrior in his 50s and described to be "sinewy and strong [and] a being of integrity and iron will," a description that Bryan Cranston easily fits into.

"Power Rangers" premieres in theaters on March 24, 2017.
