'Power Rangers' movie news: Rita Repulsa seen with different costume in new set photo

Power Rangers - Rita Repulsa Lionsgate

A previous report showcased that Rita Repulsa (Elizabeth Banks) may have been the former Green Ranger in the upcoming "Power Rangers" reboot film but a new set of leaked set photos from YVRShoots showcases the villain in a more traditional witch outfit as she interacts with the titular Power Rangers outside of their power suits.

The images reveal Rita Repulsa barefoot and dressed in rags, hinting that this may be her costume when she first breaks out of the prison that Zordon locked her in. She is then shown walking along the streets of the fictional town of Angel Grove before interacting with the Power Rangers one by one, particularly Kimberly (Naomi Scott).

One of the photos showcases Rita grabbing Kimberly and appearing to suck out the life energy from the Pink Ranger. She is also shown interacting with some of the other members of the team, indicating that this may be their first time meeting the villain and this may cause Zordon to pick these teens as the new Power Rangers.

Despite this change in wardrobe, many fans are still quick to point out that the witch costume is still a far cry from the original costume design that Rita Repulsa wore in the original 1990s television series. It is hinted that Rita might only be donning this witch costume during her time escaping the prison and will then continue wearing the green outfit.

However, as shown in a report from Movie Pilot, Rita won't be in rags for the majority of the movie as she has also been seen on set wearing the previously released green suit. This indicates she will still retain her Green Power Ranger capabilities while attacking Angel Grove and may even have a giant robot of her own.

"Power Rangers" will be released in theaters this March 24, 2017, delayed just a little bit to get it out of its original January 2017 launch window.
