'Preacher' news: AMC releases first teaser trailer

Dominic Cooper as Jesse CusterAMC

AMC has just released a promo image for their new series "Preacher," based on the graphic novels of the same name, and now the network has also released the first teaser trailer for the series, showcasing some of the main cast and characters in action.

The graphic novel series is known for its dark sense of humor and how it mixes both horror and supernatural action into a single genre, and it appears that all these translate to the series.

Opening the 20-second teaser is the line "Something got loose. We don't know how it ended up here. We're not sure why," stated by the series's main character, a Texas preacher known as Jesse Custer, played by Dominic Cooper. By the end of the trailer, Jesse continues by telling someone that he came home in order to save them.

According to the official synopsis, as per Screen Rant, the series will see Custer team up with his ex-girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vagabond, also a vampire, named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), as they battle the forces of Hell, Heaven, and "everything in between."

Unlike many other series that delve into the supernatural and horror, "Preacher" is touted to sport a morbid sense of humor and this is being attributed to actor-writer Seth Rogen being one of the producers for the show. Rogen, who worked on "This is the End" and "The Interview," has experience in mixing comedy with very dark tones and themes.

The trailer also reveals several side characters as well as another look at the villain Arseface (Ian Colletti). However, the villain does not speak in the short teaser and neither do most of the revealed side characters. Despite this, Screen Rant points out that the trailer does reveal what kind of tone and level of violence the show will rely on.

"Preacher" will premiere on AMC this May 22.
