AMC's new show "Preacher" seems to have finally found its male lead, and he came from another TV adaptation of a cult comic book series.

Dominic Cooper, the actor who portrays the role of Howard Stark in "Marvel's Agent Carter," is rumored to be the top pick to give life to the character of Reverend Jesse Custer from the 1990's popular comic series written by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion.

The new show, developed by "Breaking Bad's" Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg, and actor Seth Rogen, follows the life of the reverend from Texas who has supernatural qualities that allows him to possess the power of persuasion after being birthed from an angel and a demon. He will be joined by his ex-girlfriend named Tulip and a vampire from Ireland named Cassidy to look for God's whereabouts and learn the reason why he left heaven.

The cable network ordered the pilot of "Preacher" back in December, after Goldberg and Rogen tried to sell the controversial concept of the comic book series for a screen adaptation for seven years.

However, The Tracking Board reported that Cooper still has not received any official offers, but he is one of the first choices for the role of Reverend Custer.

The 36-year-old British actor has several notable works under his sleeve aside from his role as Howard Stark. He earned nominations as the Best Male Newcomer during the 2006 Empire Awards for his roles as Spencer in "Starter for 10" and Dakin in "The History Boys." The latter also earned him nominations for the Most Promising Newcomer award from the British Independent Film Award and British Supporting Actor of the Year for the ALFS Award.

Cooper also portrayed the roles of Ian Fleming in the TV mini-series titled "Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond" in 2004 and Mr. Willoughby in "Sense and Sensibility" back in 2008.
