Premier Radio, the first Christian radio station in London, is approaching its 10th anniversary. With a sustaining commitment to bring the message of Jesus Christ to all Christians across all denominations, as well as non-churchgoers through the airwaves in London, it is looking forward to a brighter future of the broadcasting ministry.

Premier Radio recalls the excitement of being a frontier in opening up the media ministry 10 years ago, according to a press release dated 6th June. While communication technology was not very advanced back then, the founder of Premier Radio never dreamed that the radio would reach more than 400,000 people around the world.

An endorsement has also been received from the Evangelical Alliance UK (EAUK). Director of the EAUK Rev Joel Edwards complimented that Premier's ability to offer its listeners a Christian viewpoint on current affairs is something the station considers essential.

"I remember, when travelling across London as the news of 9/11 broke, turning to Premier for a specifically Christian perspective. At a time of personal vulnerability, I felt powerfully drawn into the Christian family as we took in the news together," Rev Edwards said.

Indeed, one of the aims listed on Premier Radio’s mission statement stated, "To express the perspective of Christian belief in relation to current issues and events."

Recent market research revealed that the station is out in front of all other UK stations in building up a loyal community of listeners. Premier Radio is also being highly recognised for its achievement in two-way interaction with listeners through the Premier Lifeline telephone helpline.

Around two weeks ago, the Premier Lifeline telephone helpline received its 500,000th call, which was great news of victory for its 10th year historical milestone.

As the only licensed inter-denominational Christian radio station in the country, Premier radio encourages greater mutual understanding and co-operation between members of the different churches and denominations.

One of the presenters, Cindy Kent believes it is the diversity of the station that keeps the programming fresh and relevant.

She commented, "One of the greatest things that Premier can do is to break down barriers between Christians and build bridges inside and outside the Church. I’m very committed to this - where else can you hear the voices of Baptists, Methodists, Anglicans, Catholics and everyone else? So on my show, for instance, we’ll look at a topic and hear both a Pentecostal and a Catholic view. We can perhaps take off some of the blinkers and see what unites us."

Premier Radio also acknowledged the contribution made by Trans World Radio (TWR) and United Christian Broadcasters (UCB), both of whom have been broadcasting to the UK on satellite for a number of years.

Premier Radio Chairman David Heron concluded, "Ten years on we're still working toward the same goal - to provide the public with an opportunity to hear the Gospel, provide Christian teachings, and bring a Christian perspective to the news."

There will be a special celebration of Premier’s 10th Anniversary on Saturday 11th June at Westminster Central Hall, London, which features live music from Matt Redman and Band. Special guests include EAUK Director Rev Joel Edwards, Diane Louise Jordan and Pam Rhodes.
