United States President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Nation Address last Tuesday, Jan. 30, and one of the important matters that the president addressed was that of the U.S. immigration policy.

In his speech, the president presented a deal as a form of compromise, which provides one form of solution that allows some of the illegal immigrants, mostly those who were brought to America when they were still children, to stay in the country -- for a price. 

During the State of the Nation Address, President Trump further discussed his policies on the matter -- calling illegal immigrants "dreamers," as they circumvent their way to get an opportunity to live their lives in America. The president stated that he is obligated to protect Americans from these people, and that these immigrants pose a threat to society, citing gang-related issues as an example, as well as competitive wages that prevent Americans from getting jobs. 

President Trump offered a deal to an estimated 1.8 million illegal immigrants by giving them a 12-year period when these people can eventually become naturalized American citizens, which is a significant change in the country's immigration policies. President Trump's offer would allow the illegal immigrants -- a good number of whom are likely to be deported next month -- to remain in the United States.   

Ultimately, the president still plans on building the wall that will separate Mexico from the United States, and is looking to bolster the funding for the massive project. However, the deadlines for President Trump's proposals are fast approaching, with one coming on Feb. 8., which is related to how the United States government can appropriate its expenditures to keep the country running as smoothly as possible. 

President Trump also urged the Democrat and Republican parties to work together so that the necessary bills can be passed as quickly as possible. The president's proposals are difficult and require a lot of sacrifice in order for them to effectively be implemented.
